Default Laptop advice needed

Hello all, i am looking for a laptop for my daughter for Christmas.
I am willing to spend up to £500, have been trawling through loads of sites and found it mind boggling. She mainly uses the computer for downloading music, Msn & Photoshops, hopefull will use it in the future for studies( Big hopefully) so a decent memory i expect will be required. Will also need a integrated webcam, dvd & media card slots . Have got a PC World & Comet nearby.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Things you want and can have for £500.

Core 2 Duo CPU - Higher numbers mean faster chips, but any core 2 duo will be fine.
1GB RAM Min, 2GB with Vista
Hard drive big enough to store everything, bigger the better.

Everything else will be standard or cosmetic, like screen size etc.

Hi Dave, thanks very much, that gives me a clearer idea for what to look for.

All the best
